About Azuma Makoto

Azuma Makoto is a Japanese floral artist. Close to botanical sculpture but also to contemporary art such as land art, his varied work is often accompanied by the photographs of Shunsuke Shiinoki.

In July 2014, Azuma Makoto sent a bonsai pine tree and a floral composition into space, hanging from helium balloons. Find out more about the Exobiotanica project and over 1300 photographs that tell the story of the sculptures' journey from lift-off in Nevada to the stratosphere at an altitude of over 30,000 metres.
