Film commentary: The Little Things in Life
A tender and delicate film. An invitation to take the time to look at and appreciate the poetry of everyday life that sometimes escapes us because of habit, the little things in life. The short film can also be interpreted as a parable of the mourning of a child.
The poetic image of the little boy who flies away with the birds and then disappears, the parents' anxiety and then the hope of finding the child, evoked by the chase with a bird, can be an opportunity to explain to children the principle of figures of speech such as allegory or, more simply, comparison.
Adifficult exercise, but why not suggest that children personify an abstract notion, difficult to express in words, such as time, friendship, joy, using concrete things like animals.
Like children's drawings, the deliberate simplicity of the cut-out paper characters and watercolour backgrounds will certainly invite children to imagine characters and invent their own story.
