Question the film: Antipoden
Understand the story, the theme, express your sensibility and exercise your critical mind.1 Describe the place of the film.
It is an imaginary place separated in two by a horizontal line.Upstairs is daytime and downstairs is nighttime; but the line turns regularly and the two spaces change: the house in the daytime becomes the house in the nighttime and vice versa.
2 What does the first character do at the beginning of the film?
He prepares for the change. The line will turn and his house will be in the night. He prepares his bed to sleep.
He looks at his watch, so we can think that this is a usual phenomenon that always happens at the same time: The bird sings and the space changes.
3 From the third minute onwards, what happens when the second character raises his flag?
This has the effect of pulling the hammock of the sleeping character.
The two places are connected.Changes in the space above influence the space below.
This is why the first character is angry. It'slike a neighbourhood war.
4 List the different interactions between the two spaces.
Open answer.
5 At the end of the film, what does the first character decide to do?
He decides to detach the house below.
6 And what happens?
The house at the bottom falls down but, as it is an imaginary space, it keeps falling down and lands in the space above.
The two protagonists are forced to live on the same side but the bird loses its head, sings more and more often and the space becomes constantly changing.
7 The title of the film is "Antipoden".What is an antipode?
It is a place on Earth that is diametrically opposed to another place.
From the Latin antipodus ("whose feet are located on the opposite side")
8 Do you know the expression "To be at the antipodes of..."?
It means: to be the opposite of what is expected.
Extensions
- A fixed map showing the antipodes on top of each other;
- An interactive map, based on Google maps, allowing you to enter a place and get the antipode.
- In geography, did you know that there is an archipelago whose name is "Antipodean Islands"?
And that the " Antipodean Islands " in New Zealand are the antipodes of " Gatteville-le-phare " in Brittany The distance between them is about 20,000 km.
- This search for the antipodes could lead to further discussions on the earth's geography and climate.Itcould be noted that a very large number of countries have their antipode in the ocean (because of the proportion of oceans to land), that antipode does not necessarily mean opposite climate (see the distribution of climates in relation to latitude), etc.
- In literature, Albert des antipodes, text by Henri Delpeux, illustration by Annick Desmier (1975).
