Film commentary: Migrants
A timely short film about global warming and climate refugees.Temperatures are rising, especially as carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere from burning coal, oil and gas and turning forests into pastures.
Many scientists believe that several points of no return, such as the East Antarctic sub-glacial basins, have already been reached and that the impact of global warming is such that its consequences for life on Earth on a global scale are certainly irreversible.
Climate refugees (or environmental refugees) are people forced to leave their home regions because of the consequences of global warming, such as rising sea levels and desertification.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the climate emergency is the major crisis of our time and displacement is one of the most devastating consequences, with entire populations already suffering the consequences.
With 250 million climate refugees worldwide, climate change is creating more refugees than conflicts and wars.
Note that population displacement is not directly linked to global warming, but to weather events and natural disasters linked to global warming, such as water shortages.
