De Planeta

Short film about the destruction of the Earth.

The consequences of our actions on nature.

Synopsis

The birth, life and death of a small planet.

Film commentary: De Planeta

The birth, life and death of a small planet.
A rhythmic short film about urbanisation and the impact of human activities on planet Earth.
The film, made in the form of a single fixed sequence shot, places the viewer in a singular position, that of an astronaut who, from the window of his space shuttle, would see the passage of time and observe the changes of the Earth
.

Questioning the film: De Planeta

Tounderstand the story, the theme, to express one's sensibility and to exercise one's critical thinking.
1 Which planet do we see in the film?
The planet Earth.
2 What are the changes of the Earth and what do they represent ?
In chronological order, the birth of the Earth (4.5 billion years ago), the appearance of the oceans (4.4 billion years ago), the appearance of forests (350 million years ago), the dinosaurs (230 million years ago), the Permian extinction (possibly caused by a catastrophic event such as a supervolcano eruption or meteorite impact (252 million years ago), the last ice age (10,000 years ago), the first civilisations (3500 BC), a war in the future (1,000 years ago). C), a war in the future, the destruction of the Earth, its rebirth without humans.
3 Do you recognise certain periods of history or prehistory?
The first civilisations, Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, the Middle Ages, the Industrial Revolution, the great metropolises of today .
4 What period of time does the film represent: the past, the present, the future?
All three times.
5 Does the film correctly represent the time scale in the evolution of the planet?
No, the geological history of the Earth is much longer than the history of humans .

If the film represented the time scale correctly, the period between the birth of the earth and the last ice age before the first civilisations would last almost the whole film and the period after the first civilisations would not last a second.

6 Do you think that a person can really look at the earth from space?
Yes, it is possible. The first photograph of the earth from space was taken near the moon in 1966 from the Lunar orbiter space probe.
7 Is the ending of the film optimistic or pessimistic?
Optimistic for the earth because it is reborn but not for the humans who are disappearing.
8 Why do you think the director decided to make this film?
Certainly to make humans aware that if they don't take care of the earth they will eventually disappear
.
