Frequently asked questions and their answers.
The site films-pour-enfants.com is an aggregation site. We aggregate short films that authors and rights holders have decided to make freely available to the public on video sharing and viewing platforms.
We only aggregate short films hosted on the Vimeo platform, which has no advertising before or during the films, unlike platforms such as YouTube or Dailymotion.
If rights holders no longer wish to offer free viewing of their films and change the Vimeo viewing conditions (private mode, blocking aggregation...), these films are automatically removed from our aggregation portal.
No, the short films on the portal are not copyright-free. Authors and rights holders offer their films for free viewing on the Internet but these films are protected by the copyright law of each country.
For example, commercial use or modification of audiovisual content requires the agreement of the authors.
Whether films can be watched in public depends on the copyright law of each country, and it is up to each user to ensure compliance with the legislation of the country where viewing takes place.
Many countries (United States, England, Germany, Canada, India, Greece, Japan...) have adopted fair use — a set of legal rules, of legislative and case law origin, whereby certain elements protected by copyright can be broadcast or reused without the authorization of the copyright holders. This applies to uses for criticism, information sharing, teaching and research.
For more information, see the conditions for public performance of a work by country...
In the specific case of France, the concept of fair use does not exist and resources available on the Internet are not covered by the educational exception and are therefore subject to copyright.
In France, watching portal films at home with the family is perfectly legal, but is not legal in public.
Public performance rights must be obtained from organizations specializing in rights management.

A classroom is considered a public space and the same rules as for public screenings apply.
We therefore invite teachers in France not to show portal short films in class, but to encourage students to watch them at home with their families and then participate in educational activities with teachers in class.
Short film authors regularly share their new creations with us, and a selection committee retains certain films based on the main criteria of humanism, ecology, poetry and the originality of the visual universe.
We also go out to meet authors. Film festivals and animation schools are excellent resources for discovering new gems.
Rights holders can submit their films by sending a viewing link to inscription(at)films-pour-enfants(dot)com.
The Films pour enfants association creates the educational content of the portal internally but also sometimes calls on external authors.
With the support of the Ministry of National Education, 250 educational sheets were created in 2019 by a team of 20 teachers and cinema professionals. These activities were initially intended for teachers who had taken out a paid subscription but we are progressively making all these activities freely available on the portal.
This is also the case for the selection grid and viewing guidelines to help decide on the suitability of content for children's ages, developed in collaboration with the association 3-6-9-12 and Serge Tisseron, patron of the Films pour enfants.
As well as many other resources that we progressively add to the site and share on social networks, such as thematic pathways proposed by Réseau Canopé, dossiers dedicated to media literacy, and dossiers dedicated to cinema lexicon and grammar (Frame, Field, Off-screen, Off-sound, Composition, Shot scale, Angle of view...).
